Green Construction with Georgia Tech

This fall semester, we’ve had the privilege of spending time with great students in the undergraduate course Green Construction at the Georgia Institute of Technology. The course is taught by Dr. Ebenezer Fanijo in the School of Building Construction and focuses on sustainable building.

In late September, our CEO Jason Sosnovsky visited Dr. Fanijo’s class and lectured about the life cycle of a solar project from a subcontractor’s perspective. The discussion focused on our rooftop project in Woolwich, New Jersey and went from beginning to end - receiving plans and bidding all the way to QA/QC and testing. Students saw real bid breakdowns, real plans, and real daily reports. At the end of the lecture, there were good questions. Students were interested in the life of a solar system, the best racking systems, and how we find new projects.

Two weeks later, we partnered with our great friends at Cherry Street Energy to show the Green Construction class a canopy installation on Georgia Tech’s campus. Taff Goodman, Director of Construction at Cherry Street, was with our David Hearn, Project Manager, and Jose Palacios, Superintendent. Up close, the students saw a solar module, crimped an MC-4, and witnessed voltage testing. A classroom can only do so much. Seeing the real thing in the field matters.

Many thanks to Dr. Fanijo for these opportunities to connect with Georgia Tech and its students. And many thanks to the students for their engagement. For us, we hope this is the first of many opportunities to spend time with students to share the excitement of solar. We’d be excited to meet your students whether in college or younger, so please be in touch if we can help your curriculum.
