Toolbox Talk - March 3, 2026

Juan and crew always look great in high visibility colors. This one is from Louisville, Kentucky.

This week at Pine Energy, our scheduled toolbox talk is about personal protective equipment, or “PPE.”

PPE is one of the most visible parts of safety on a job site. Hard hats. Gloves. Safety glasses. High-visibility clothing. Because it is routine, it is easy to treat PPE as automatic.

It is not automatic. PPE only works when it is selected correctly, worn consistently, and maintained properly.

Every task has hazards. Flying particles. Sharp edges. Moving equipment. Chemical exposure. PPE protects workers when those hazards cannot be fully eliminated through planning or engineering controls.

We emphasized a few simple expectations.

Wear high-visibility shirts so workers can be seen around equipment and vehicles. Wear long pants and proper work boots suited for the job site. Use Type-2 hard hats with chin straps for head protection. Select gloves, eye protection, and other PPE based on the hazards of the task.

PPE must also be inspected and cared for. Damaged equipment must be replaced. Equipment that is not maintained cannot protect the worker who depends on it.

These are not complicated requirements. But they require discipline.

Serious incidents often begin with small gaps. Safety glasses left in the truck. Worn gloves. A hard hat not secured. Small gaps create big consequences.

PPE closes those gaps.

At Pine Energy, we try to emphasize making ordinary decisions correctly. Wear the equipment. Inspect it. Replace it when needed.

Protect the worker. Protect the team.
