Toolbox Talk - April 28, 2026

Big time construction truck on a big time site in Terlingua, Texas.

Last week at Pine Energy, our toolbox talk was about motor vehicle safety.

Our crews drive every day to and from job sites. Mobilizing and demobilizing from projects. Around active construction sites. Home on extended weekends.

The vehicle is part of the job, and the risks are real. Car accidents. Injuries. Harm to others on the road. The consequences of distracted or careless driving don't stay at the job site.

We covered four basics.

Put the phone down. Do not engage in other activities while driving. Turn on airplane mode if needed to eliminate the urge to answer a text, call, or email alert. If you need to make a call or send a message, pull over to a safe area first. And if you're a passenger, speak up. Urge any driver using their phone to put it down.

Be a defensive driver. Always leave yourself an out. Think ahead - what do you do if an accident happens in front of you? What if a car runs the next stoplight? Thinking proactively while driving can save your life.

Always wear your seatbelt. No exceptions.

Keep a clean and well-kept vehicle. Dirty windows and dusty mirrors make it harder to see. Loose cargo like empty water bottles, tools, and PPE are a distraction and can interfere with vehicle controls. A clean vehicle is a safer vehicle.

None of this is complicated. All of it requires consistency.
